Upholstery is the work of providing furniture, especially seats, with padding, springs, webbing, and fabric or leather covers.
Fabric creates a first and lasting impression on people, so it’s essential that it looks perfect. When selecting materials to complement our pieces, we divide them into fabric groups, considering how easy it to upholster, the nature of the pile and the fire retardancy. All these elements affect how the fabric will look over time – especially when you throw contours and curves into the mix or broad swathes of material.
All our upholstered items are COM (customers own material) or COL (customers own leather). Fabric / Leather quantities – You can have different fabrics/leathers on a piece, and we’ll let you know the exact quantities required. There is no up-charge for this.
To meet UK standards, our upholstered pieces come with FR interliner as standard for residential projects. Commercial projects will need to have fabrics treated accordingly.
Many of our upholstered items come with piping details, and so if you want to add a contrast piping, we'll be able to let you know how much fabric will be required for this, either in standard fabric metres or in linear metres if using a piping cord. You may also like to add stitching details to your upholstered piece, and we have a selection of stiching patterns to choose from. You are able to specify how the cushions are made up by using foams and feathers to increase comfort levels.
Deep buttoning requires the greatest amount of patience and accuracy of all the reupholstering techniques. The effect of deep buttoning can easily define a piece of furniture and make it into a visual and sensual drama.

The Right-way direction upholstery is used unless otherwise specified. Right-way upholstery direction is vertically applied to a piece. However this can cause seam lines due to the width constraint of 1370mm. Railroaded upholstery direction is horizontally applied to a piece, usually sofas that are wider than 1370mm.
