Entrance to The Lanesborough Club & Spa
The brief for this project was to design a hidden away space that promotes wellness, by the use of materials, to create distinct and luxurious spaces that aid relaxation and give rise to a personal journey throughout the club & spa.
Initial concept designs
The materials that were chosen reflect a style commonly found in the UK, with initial inspiration taken from Bath spa with its use of stone. Other materials such as the oak and walnut finishes were chosen for their longevity and their ability to age well, creating a more welcoming environment, and essentially creating a home from home.

We were asked to match some of the intricate detailing of furniture pieces found in the main hotel. This included hand carved details, and some wonderful marquetry on consoles that needed to be replicated with accuracy.

Recently crowned the World's Best New Hotel Spa 2017 at the World Spa Awards™, the Lanesborough Club & Spa is a discrete haven away from the hubbub of London. Spread over 18,000 square feet, the club has a 360° approach to wellbeing. British in character and craftsmanship, the club houses a restaurant serving healthy food with a private dining room and an opulent spa lounge.

Many of the furniture pieces used in the bar and restaurant areas use warmer tones of oak and walnut with added details such as the touches of gold leaf and bronze inlay to add to the feeling of luxury. 1508 London were able to call on their experience in residential design to add in classical detailing to many of the furniture pieces that we developed with their design team.
Private dining room
Each area was to have its own identity, whilst remaining in-keeping with the style found through-out the hotel. Situated just of Hyde Park corner, 1508 London were keen to keep a London locale sense of place, and the use of traditional materials such as Portland stone and burnished bronze was key to this.

The 18,000 sqft floor space is divided into treatment areas and places to relax. There is a distinctive luxurious ‘club for life’ feel, providing an excellent location to meet, improve personal wellbeing, or simply relax. The mix & scale of facilities has been painstakingly selected & meticulously arranged to create journeys that flatter various combinations of experiences.

“In designing the spa, we really wanted to create a beautiful extension of The Lanesborough Hotel,” says Louise Wicksteed, creative director and partner at 1508 London. “It’s such an iconic British hotel, and it has such an amazing quality to it. It’s an extension of your personal space, and it feels very personal, so that’s what we tried to bring into the spa design. The ‘language’ is taken from The Lanesborough itself – the Portland stone, the timbers and the panelling – it’s very rich, layered and detailed”

“The Lanesborough member’s club and spa has been our most rewarding project to date. So often we can’t share our projects, let alone our design ambitions and talent ... with The Lanesborough, it has offered us a beautiful brief, very ambitious aspirations, and a remarkable legacy to be a part of.”
- Hamish Brown, partner at 1508 London.
