The Westbury Hotel Dublin

In late 2015 we were approached by luxury Irish hotelier, the Doyle Collection, to work with them to develop a new feeling for the busiest part of their flagship hotel, The Gallery Lounge, and The Sidecar Bar at The Westbury Hotel in Dublin.

This is the second time we have worked on this particular hotel and one of several occasions we’ve been fortunate to work with the Doyle Collection on other hotels within their portfolio.

In 2007 as one of our first major clients Decca worked on the Marylebone, the Bristol and the Westbury.  Working closely with Cunningham McLean, bedrooms, public areas were all renovated.  Since then we have also worked with a number of very talented designers on The Kensington, The Westbury and currently The Bloomsbury with MBDS studio, which will reveal a fresh look for the Bar & Gallery later this year.

Having now worked with Doyle on a number of occasions, we have a good idea of their expectations with regards to quality so this put us in a fortunate position to take on The Westbury, Dublin again this time with Canadian Designer Timothy Mather.  Timothy was born in England but spent a number of years living and working in Canada within the fashion industry, before moving towards interior design where he established a successful career working on both high residential and hospitality projects.  A move which was validated in 2008 when he received ‘The ultimate accolade in the world of interior design’, when the Andrew Martin Interior Design Review, nominated him as one of the ‘International Designers of the Year’.

His new glamourous approach to the Westbury, Dublin takes inspiration from Art Deco Design and in particular the Luxury Ocean Liner, SS. Normandie c. 1935.

It was both the largest and fastest vessel of its day, with some of the most lavish interiors ever designed leading many to consider it one of the greatest ocean liners to have ever set sail.  With such an accolade, this makes it a tough act to follow but the interiors at the Westbury do not disappoint and Tim’s 10 years in the fashion industry is evident through his tasteful selection of fabrics.

We love the patterned fabric back panels on some of the bar chairs as well as the ‘Art Deco lounge chairs’ and leather room divider.

In addition to the upholstery pieces, the case good items feature a lot of polished brass, dark stained veneers and high-quality Nero Portoro marble tops inset within the coffee tables.

In addition to the Bar & Gallery, we also produced some new room schemes with Tim, which the Westbury Dublin is yet to reveal. It is, of course, our hope that we can continue developing these areas and others with the Doyle Collection as further updates are announced.
