Bellanger restaurant was launched in December 2015 by Corbin & King restaurants.
Chris Corbin and Jeremy King
The newly opened Bellanger is a Belle Époque-styled grand café and brasserie, set on Islington Green in the heart of fashionable North London. It is quickly gathering a loyal following, becoming one of the most sought after places in this bustling area.
Bellanger is a surprisingly large restaurant, with over 200-covers, yet retaining an intimate feel. This is through the talent of the designer Shayne Brady of Brady Williams. A young and exciting new design firm, working on retail (Fenwick on Bond Street in particular) residential and hospitality it is headed by Shayne who was previously working on Fischer’s and The Delaunay, Brasserie Zedel and Colbert.
The restaurant has been designed to create three architecturally resolved rooms, all in a light handsome, Belle Époque style. The Front Room features large, fold-back windows looking out onto Islington Green. A long bar, with high bar stool seating and standing room, leads to the intimate, carpeted Upper Room.
Whilst enjoying some of the traditional French dishes and wine, you can make yourself comfortable on the banquettes made by Decca. These banquettes are made of solid oak wood and veneer. Oak wood is well-known for its density creating great strength and hardness. It makes it a perfect material for producing furnishings that are able to handle everyday use, such as in restaurants or theatres.
Oak wood also has a very appealing grain marking, with quarter cut having a very regular more contemporary look, and flat cut showing the movement and cathedral motif in more traditional furniture. You can find out more about veneers and layup options in our in depth blog written by Mark Cox, Decca London’s Project Manager.
The banquettes also have brass accents on the legs, which highlight the luxury feeling of Belle Époque style. They are enveloped by warm, glossy wood panelling, bevelled mirror detailing, large curved windows and specifically sourced antique wall lamps and chandeliers. The project main contractor WFC have transformed the mundane previous restaurant into this destination restaurant with panache.
Bellanger is a one of a kind restaurant and truly worth visiting. Featuring some of the most traditional dishes such as a range of tartes flambées, choucroute, baeckoff , coq au Riesling, plats du jour and a number of sharing dishes, we promise you will enjoy their food at any time of the day.
